He kept joining attacks, especially when Gambia's backline proved hard to crack, and his 12th-minute pinpoint cross almost produced a goal, but Vincent Aboubakar's final effort was cleared.

Ngadeu-Ngadjui's effort to close down Musa Barrow in the 41st minute was critical for the hosts.

The Gambia's dangerman was approaching Cameroon's goal, but the centre-back denied him space before he superbly cleared the ball away.

He also denied the Gambians an open chance in the 68th minute with a vital clearance.

He got a fairly open chance to break the deadlock in the 26th minute, but his timid shot was easily collected by Gambia's goalkeeper, Baboucarr Gaye.

A clearing header in the 83rd minute denied the Scorpions a chance to at least score and deny Cameroon a clean sheet.
