Opting to bat firstNorth Zone rode on a fine unbeaten 130 by S Verma to muster 261 on theopening day. Verma shared a 85 run fourth wicket stand with U Dutta(32). But for the most part Verma wagged a lone battle as none of histeammates stayed long enough at the crease.In response, East Zone took a 58 run first innings lead thanks to afine 143 by opener S Agarwal who carried his bat through the innings.During a 450 minute stay at the crease Agarwal faced 317 balls and hit14 boundaries in all. North Zone in their second innings scored 212for 8 when they declared their innings. The chief contributor being VMahajan with an unbeaten 102.Set to score 115, East Zone batting collapsed on the final day andwere all out for 108. Only three batsmen S Seal (14), PK Senapati (10)and S Das (41) managed to reach double figures. R Gehlot (4 for 33)and V Thakur (4 for 18) ripped through the East line up.
